Welcome to Woot

The idea is simple: Create a Minecraft world. Play in it for five days. And then pass it on.

What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a game, produced by Mojang AB, in which players explore, craft, build, and survive. The world is rendered in the form of stylized blocks which can be mined out or placed by players. The beauty of the game is that it is both simple enough to intuitively grasp, and complex enough to allow for true creativity to be expressed.

What is Woot?

Woot is a world, created within Minecraft. Everything about a Minecraft world is placed in a save file that takes up a few MB. Drop someone else's save file into your Minecraft directory, and voila, you have access to their world.

The idea of Woot is to create what's sometimes called a "Legacy" game. One player will create the world, build and play in it for five days, and then pass it on to the next player in the chain. While the new player is playing, the previous player writes up his or her gameplay experience here, on Tales of Woot. Once the new player has played for five days (or less, if so inclined), they pass the game on, and start writing. Eventually the game goes back to the first player, and the chain restarts.

Why?

For fun, mostly. And because there's a certain thrill to single-player Minecraft, to the solitary battle for survival. And to show off. And to find weird narratives in the open-world structure of Minecraft. And to have fun, mostly.

Sounds great! Can I play?

Unfortunately, the players for the first "chain" have been set, so it'll be awhile before we can accept any new players into the game. However, when players post their reports, hopefully they'll also post their save files, so that anyone can grab the "current" state of Woot, and see what's changed since the last iteration.

When does it start?

Our first player has already completed his initial playthrough, and passed the game on. His report should be up soon.
